Welsh cyclist Nicole Cooke, 23, has claimed the 2007 Geelong Tour crown to confirm her status as the world ranked number one in women's cycling and signal she's in form to perform well in Saturday's opening round of the UCI Women's Road World Cup in Geelong. Cooke, the 2003 and 2006 World Cup Series Champion, went into today's final stage, five laps of a 15km road circuit at Barwon Heads on Victoria's Surf Coast, with only a slender seven second overall lead and with twenty riders within a minute of her but she responded to every attack to finish with the front group and cement her victory.

Teutenberg steams home for second stage victory in Geelong Tour

Germany's Ina-Yoko Teutenberg scored her second straight win when she sprinted home first at the end of today's 114.3km stage three of the Geelong Tour out and back from the Victorian country town of Lara. Teutenberg, 32, led home Australia's Oenone Wood, 26, to give the T-Mobile team the top two placings with Sydney's Rochelle Gilmore, 25, (Menikini Gysko) in third place.

World Number One leads Geelong Tour after day one

Welsh world number one Nicole Cooke, 23, (Raleigh Lifeforce) leads the Geelong Tour at the end of day one after securing third place in both the opening 8km time trial and the 30 kilometre second stage at Portarlington, on Victoria's Bellarine Peninsula. Cooke, holds a two second overall lead ahed of American Dottsie Bausch (Colavita/Sutter Home) and is five seconds clear of third placed Larissa Kleinmann (German National Team).
